  The main issue is that srand(time()) is insufficient to prevent
  thundering herd when restarting hundreds of lumberjack nodes
  simultaneously (All restarts in the same second have the same seed, so
  are likely to choose the same lumberjack host to connect to first)

  Main goal is to pick up go as a language again, but I might stick with
  it if deploying a go binary is easier. The code's certainly more
  flexible with less effort.
